DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (December 20, 2011) – The 19th ranked Mount Union College (10-1) held the Rangers to their lowest point total of the season in a 65-33 loss this afternoon in the final game of the Daytona Beach Shootout.
Drew (4-6) was buried early by the Purple Raiders who scored the first 19 points of the game before the Rangers finally got on the scoreboard 9:17 into the first half of play. Mount Union took a 36-12 lead into the locker room, a deficit that the Rangers would not recover from.
The second half started in eerily similar to the first with the Purple Raiders netting the first nine points of the frame, erasing all notions of a comeback. Mount Union was powered by Rosa LaMattina who led all scorers with 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting.
Senior Victoria Ault led the Rangers attack, scoring eight points and grabbing one rebound. The sharp-shooting Purple Raiders made 52 percent of their shots compared to just 31 percent by the Rangers.
The 33 points is the lowest offensive output since February 12, 2000 when the Rangers scored 31 in a loss to Scranton.
The Rangers will head back north and return to the hardwood on January 7th when they open up Landmark Conference play against Susquehanna in Selinsgrove, Pa.
