It wasn't until the final minutes when Centre pulled away, but the Colonels used a late run to extend their winning streak to 15 games and take a 66-54 victory over Spalding in the team's final non-conference game of the regular season.

Centre led most of the way, but was unable to gain a significant advantage until Maggie Hartlage (Louisville, Ky.) sank a 3-pointer from the left corner to go up 52-46 with 5:39 to play. While the Colonels forced Spalding to go 0-for-2 from the field with two turnovers on its next four possessions, Maggie Prewitt (Mount Sterling, Ky.) followed with a jumper, Chelsea Benham (Taswell, Ind.) drove for a layup and Lauren Huter (Louisville, Ky.) added two free throws to complete a 9-0 run.

The surge put Centre in command with a 58-46 lead with 3:34 to play. Shortly after, the Colonels would reach their biggest lead at 62-48 after a layup by Bridget Winstead (Franklin, Tenn.).

Benham finished with 16 points to lead all scorers while Huter added 10 with 10 rebounds. Winstead and Prewitt each had nine with Prewitt dishing out 11 assists. Kerstin Hayes and Jessica Guy led Spalding with 14 points each.

Until the final stretch, neither team was able to gain much of an edge.  Though Centre led for much of the first half, the lead traded hands four times with the biggest being Centre's 17-12 advantage after a Huter free throw at the 10:20 mark. Spalding would briefly lead 25-22 after a 7-0 run before Centre eventually took it back on an Alyson Burke (Burgin, Ky.) 3-pointer and took a 32-29 lead to the break.

Spalding held just one quick lead in the second half at 37-36 before a 3-pointer by Jane Goatley (Springfield, Ky.) sparked a 9-0 run to put the Colonels in front 45-37. Though Spalding was able to pull back within three points, Centre was able to put the game away with its late run.

The Colonels were able to gain an advantage by forcing 21 turnovers while committing just 12. Aside from that, the statistics were relatively even with each team pulling down 38 rebounds while Spalding shot 38 percent (17-of-45) to Centre's 36 percent (25-of-69). Centre went 6-of17 from 3-point range while Spalding shot 4-of-12.

Spalding falls to 10-10 on the year while Centre moves to 18-1 overall. Centre will put its 11-0 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference record on the line again when it hosts Sewanee at 1 p.m. Saturday.
