The Lakeland College women's basketball team defeated Wisconsin Lutheran College, 77-62, on Wednesday night, the Warriors first Northern Athletics Conference loss of the season.

The Muskies (13-6, 8-5 NAC) started off slow, but never gave up and handed the Warriors their first home loss since Jan. 30, 2010, also a Lakeland victory

Lakeland would score first on a free throw from sophomore Jessica Genke (Kiel, Wis.), but it would be the Muskies only lead of the half. The Warriors (16-4, 13-1 NAC) offense was firing on all cylinders, leading by as many as 12 points, 26-14, with 6:34 left. Lakeland was able to keep it close and trailed by nine, 35-26, at the half. The Warriors outscored the Muskies inside 18-8 and the Wisconsin Lutheran reserves outscored Lakeland's, 15-6. The Muskies also committed 13 turnovers which produced 18 Warrior points.

Lakeland shot 47.4 percent (9-for-19) from the field, 44.4 percent (4-for-9) from the 3-point line, but just 50 percent (4-for-8) from the free throw line. Wisconsin Lutheran shot 55.6 percent (15-for-27) from the field, 37.5 percent (3-for-5) from behind the arc and 40 percent (2-for-5) from the charity stripe.

After the Warriors stretched their lead to 13 points, 41-28, Lakeland used a 19-6 run to tie the game at 47, with 13:19 to play. A pair of Leah Eisner (Stevens Point, Wis.) free throws would give the Muskies their first lead, 49-47, since leading 1-0 in the first half. Dana Henrichs (Fall Creek, Wis.) would give the Muskies the lead for good hitting two free throws at the 10:13 mark. Lakeland would take a seven point, 60-53 lead at the 4:03 mark on a Taylor Jandrin (Forestville, Wis.) 3-pointer, that swung the momentum in Lakeland's favor.

Lakeland shot 52 percent (12-for-23) from the floor, 66.7 percent (4-for-6) from behind the arc and hit 23-of-26 free throws to seal the win. The defense played better as well holding the Warriors to a 29.7 percent (11-for-37) shooting percentage in the second half, inkling a 3-for-17 mark from the 3-point line.

Genke led the Muskies with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Henrichs added 13 points.

Lakeland returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 4, as the Muskies host Benedictine University at 2 p.m.
