Long and Kitchen Lead Saints To An 83-64 Win Over Rival W&J

(WASHINGTON, Pa.) - Junior guard Allison Long (Hebron, Ky./Conner) and sophomore guard Katie Kitchen (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) each scored 19 points to lead The Thomas More College women's basketball team to an 83-64 win over rival Washington & Jefferson College today (Saturday, January 28, 2012) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Henry Memorial Center in Washington, Pennsylvania.

With the win, the Saints improve to 15-4 overall and 11-1 in the PAC.  With the loss, the Presidents fall to 10-9 overall and 5-7 in the PAC.

Washington & Jefferson took an early 4-2 lead when Ashley Kirkpatrick made a jumper with 18:12 to play in the first half.  Thomas More answered with a 27-10 run to take a 29-14 lead with 7:06 to play in the opening half when junior guard/forward Lauren Hargett (Verona, Ky./Walton-Verona) made a three-pointer.  The Presidents responded with a 16-5 run to cut the lead to 34-30 with 1:19 to play in the half when Kara Seamon made a three-pointer.  The Saints closed out the half on a 5-2 run to take a 39-32 lead at halftime when Kitchen made a lay-up with five-seconds to play in the half.

W&J opened the second half on a 9-2 run to tie the game at 41-41 with 17:15 to play in the game when Vanessa Rivera made two free-throws.  Thomas More answered with a 34-15 run to take a 75-56 lead on a Kitchen lay-up with 4:20 to play in the game.   The Presidents responded with a 7-1 run to cut the lead to 76-63 on a Megan DeLisle jumper with 2:35 to play in the game.  That would be as close as W&J would come as Thomas More closed out the game on a 7-1 run for the 83-64 victory.

Two other Saints joined Long and Kitchen in double-figure scoring as Hargett and sophomore forward Moriah Corey (Louisville, Ky./Butler) both finished with 11 points.  Corey completed her second straight double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds.  Long and sophomore guard Devin Beasley (Burlington, Ky./Conner) led the team in assists with six each.

Thomas More will open a two-game home stand on Wednesday (February 1) when it hosts Bethany College at 5:30 p.m. inside the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
