Kenyon Halts Allegheny Win Streak with Second Half Push

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Allegheny women's basketball team's season-high five game win streak came to an end on Saturday afternoon at the hands of Kenyon College. The Ladies used a strong second half to hand the Gators just their second conference loss of the season, 78-55.

Allegheny started the game off very strong, taking an early lead on a pair three pointer by sophomore Erica Restich. The Gators would grow their first half lead to as much as six, on several different occasions, the latest of which coming on a three from freshman guard Marina Scarantino at the 5:52 mark of the first half.

Unfortunately for Allegheny, they would go cold from the floor at the exact time the Ladies would heat up. Kenyon would go on a 12-0 run, turning a six point deficit into a six point lead with just over one minute remaining in the half. A pair of Ann Ryan free throws would cut the lead to four, as Allegheny went into the half looking to seize back the momentum of the game.  

The Gators looked to be back in the contest early in the second half, as they would come out of the gates firing, knotting the game at 39; however, it would be short lived as Kenyon would pull away shortly after.

After shooting 45.2 percent in the first half, Allegheny would be held to 7-24 shooting in the second stanza proving to be the difference in the game.

The Gators would have three scorers in double figures, lead by junior forward Heidi Goeller who poured in a team high 14 points. Ford would finish the game with 10 points and eight rebounds, while Restich contributed with 10 points, 4 boards and 4 assists as Allegheny would fall to 12-6 on the season, and 8-2 in conference play.

Allegheny will be off until Friday, February 3 when they will travel Greencastle, Indiana to take on No. 6 DePauw University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
