Medaille Women Cruise to 6th Straight Win

More news about: Medaille

STEUBENVILLE, OH - It wasn't the prettiest game for the Medaille College women's basketball but the end result still produced their desired outcome, a (66-38) AMCC road victory over Franciscan University.

The Lady Mavs were sloppy with the basketball but shot and defended very well in their sixth straight victory.  Despite turning the ball over (30) times, Medaille knocked down (50.0%) of their field goal attempts, held the Barons to a paltry (20.9%) shooting from the floor and blocked six shots to preserve the easy win.

The Lady Maverick bench proved to be a huge factor in the games outcome as they outscored the Baron reserves (36-3), with Joelle Pollak leading that group.  She dropped in a game best (22) points on (9 of 14) shooting, which included a trio of three pointers, to go along with six rebounds and two steals.

Senior Tanisha Travis chipped in with eleven points and a game best nine rebounds and three blocked shots while fellow fourth year player Meghan Dougherty contributed ten points.

Making the most of rare starts were Mary Bongiovanni who knocked down (3 of 4) shots from the floor for an eight point day and Taneda Travis who grabbed seven boards, blocked a pair of shots, and scored four points.

The battle of the paint went the way of Medaille as well to the tune of (24-8).  The Lady Mavs also dominated the glass in the win, outrebounding Franciscan (43-28).  The Lady Mavs are yet to lose to the Barons since the two teams began playing.

The win moves Medaille to (15-4) overall and gain sole possession of 2nd place in the conference standings at (11-2).  They will look to stay on track when they host Hilbert College on Wednesday (2/1) for an 8:00pm tipoff.
