Second half roll guides Cadets

NORTHFIELD, VT. – The Norwich University women's basketball team opened the second half with a 9-0 run en route to an 83-62 conference victory over Anna Maria Jan. 26 at Andrews Hall. Freshman guard Aliah Curry (Windsor, Mass.) knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to spark the rally with senior forward Jessalyn Sweeney (Standfordville, N.Y.) adding a three as well.

The early stretch was part of a 50-point second half for Coach Mark Zacher's team. It was the second such effort of the season for the Maroon and Gold. NU's 83-point total was its second-highest of the year.

With the win the Cadets improved to 7-12 overall and 2-5 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. Curry led the Norwich attack with her 14th straight double-digit scoring effort netting 23 points. Senior forward Tara Stevenson (Watertown, Conn.) added a season-high 17 points while Kristen Brown chipped in 14 points to go with a game-high six assists.

Katie Pryor and Samantha Ashton scored 13 points apiece to pace JWU. Senior forward Jocelyn Fasulo (Contoocook, N.H.) pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds for NU.

Norwich closes out a three-game home stand Saturday, Jan. 28, when they host Emerson for a pivotal conference matchup. The game is set to tipoff at 1 p.m.
