Senior Anne Wilson scored 14 of her game-high 16 points in the first half, as the Bethany College women's basketball team raced out to a big halftime lead and never looked back in posting a 66-43 victory at Geneva Wednesday night.
The win was the fourth in the last five games for the Bison, who improved to 11-7 overall and 7-4 in the PAC. The Golden Tornadoes fall to 3-15 and 2-9 in the conference.
The first half was tight until a BC flurry right before the intermission put the Green and White in control. The lead stood at 17-16 when Bison junior Kayla Taormina had a three-point play to ignite the 22-5 surge. Senior Kelly Zogran popped in eight during the run and Wilson hit for five, as Bethany built up a 39-21 halftime cushion.
The Bison kept pouring it on to begin the second half, recording 16 of the first 22 points of the period and when sophomore Emilee Madison (Smock, Pa./Uniontown) hit a lay-up with 10:14 to go, BC had its largest lead of the night at 55-27. Geneva would trim the deficit back to 15 but the Green and White closed the game on an 11-3 run to complete the season sweep of the Golden Tornadoes.
Sparking BC to the victory was 50 percent shooting from the floor (24-48) and a huge 41-20 rebounding advantage. Wilson was 3-for-5 from the arc in posting the game-high 16 points, while junior Renee Shepherd recorded 12 points and team-bests of six rebounds and five steals. Zogran completed the double figure scorers with 10.
Geneva's top point production came from point guard Beth DeLuca with 12.
The Bison return home for their next game when they host Chatham in a PAC match-up Saturday at 2 p.m.
