Marymount Women’s Basketball Falls to Rival UMW

Fredericksburg, Va. – Marymount University's women's basketball team fell to 11th-ranked archrival Mary Washington 53-40 in Capital Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night.  The Saints drop to 7-12 overall and 4-6 in league play.

 

Katelyn Fischer led the Saints with a double-double, scoring 14 points to go with 10 rebounds.  Jackie Bohenek and Julie Tomesheski both added eight points in the loss.

 

A back-and-forth first half saw six ties and four lead changes over the first 20 minutes of action.  Neither squad led by more than four points in the stanza as the Saints lead by two up 19-17 with 2:15 to go on a Fischer jumper. The Eagles (19-0, 10-0 CAC) would battle back to take a 22-20 lead going into halftime.

 

Marymount outshot UMW 42.9 percent to 35.7% in the first half but couldn't keep pace in the second.  The Eagles upped their output to 46.4% in the second stanza, a clip MU wouldn't match as Mary Washington pulled away in the frame.

 

Katie Wimmer led the Eagles with 18 points while Jenna McRae added 12.

 

Marymount returns to the hardwood next Wednesday against Salisbury on the road in CAC action.
