GENESEO, N.Y. – Kayla Ryan's game-high 21 points were not enough to help the Oswego State women's basketball team avoid a 74-59 loss to Geneseo Tuesday night.  The Lakers (9-7, 4-6 SUNYAC) cut a 13-point deficit in the first half to three points at halftime, but the Blue Knights (11-6, 6-4 SUNYAC) embarked on a 9-0 run to start the second half.

Ryan (Sr., Schaghticoke, N.Y.) scored nine of her 21 points from the free throw line, while Kassie Kleine (Jr., Cazenovia, N.Y.) was the only other Laker to reach double figures with 16 points, as she went 4-for-8 from behind the arc.

Geneseo's Melissa Graham posted a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.  She joined in double digits by Lea Sobieraski and Bri Dunton with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

The Blue Knights raced out to a 10-0 lead in the opening five minutes until Kayla Ryan (Sr., Schaghticoke, N.Y.) sank a pair of free throws. After Geneseo built its largest lead of the first half at 13 points, Oswego State went on a 19-2 run to take a 21-17 lead with 6:18 to play in the frame. Kleine had a hand in ten of those points, as drilled two three-pointers and dished out two assists during the stretch. However, both squads traded leads before the end of the half until the Blue Knights found themselves ahead 30-27 at the break.  The Lakers stuck with the home team due in large part to shooting 12-for-14 from the charity stripe.

Oswego State missed its first four shots of the second half, while Geneseo scored on three of its first four possessions to go ahead 39-27.  Two Dunton free throws gave the Blue Knights their biggest lead of the game at 52-34 with 14:11 remaining.

The Lakers mounted a charge midway through the stanza, as a Ryan layup with 9:04 on the clock pulled them to within seven points at 56-49.  Geneseo put an end to the comeback by scoring seven straight points to cruise to the win.

Oswego State had its difficulties offensively, as it shot 32.7 percent (18-of-55) from the floor.  Outside of Kleine's performance from downtown, the Lakers were 2-for-14 from long range.  The Blue Knights finished shooting 50.0 percent (28-of-56) and 37.5 percent (6-of-16) from the three-point line.

Oswego State travels to the North Country this weekend to play at Plattsburgh on Friday and Potsdam on Saturday.
