More news about: Case Western Reserve

ATLANTA, Ga. – Senior forward Erin Hollinger (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) recorded a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds, but a 9-0 run late in the contest was the undoing as the Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team fell versus Emory University, 68-56, in University Athletic Association action on Sunday at the George W. Woodruff P.E. Center.

The Spartans (8-8, 1-4 UAA), who trailed by as many as 17 in the game before rallying to take the lead with 6:04 left to play, have lost four-straight and will look to right the ship next weekend with league games at Brandeis University (Mass.) on Friday, January 27 and New York University on Sunday, Jan. 29.

Emory (13-3, 4-1 UAA) wins its fourth-straight game.

The Spartans led 7-6 at the 16:52 mark, but Emory took over with an 11-0 run that culminated in a Melissa Koike fast-break layup at 13:36. The Eagles maintained control and then built their advantage to 17, at 30-13, following a Misha Jackson jumper with 5:49 left in the first half. But refusing to go away, Case was able to end the period on a 12-5 run and pulled within 35-25 as freshman guard Amanda Germer (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) accounted for the final bucket with a three-pointer at 00:42.

In the second, Hollinger scored the first four to pull the Spartans to within six at 18:21. After a quick five points by Emory, Case came roaring back with an 11-0 run to tie the score at 40 as Hollinger hit two free throws with 13:18 left to play. The Eagles then answered with six in a row as part of a 9-6 run before the Spartans tied the game again at 49 with a three-pointer by freshman guard Brooke Orcutt (Morrison, Colo./Dakota Ridge) at 7:13. Two possessions later, the Spartans grabbed the lead as freshman guard Rachel Beaty (Carrollton, Texas/Hebron) hit a triple of her own, but Emory responded with nine in a row and led 58-52 when Jackson hit a free throw with 1:15 remaining. The Spartans were unable to recover from that point as Emory scored 10 more to counter just four from Case.

Beaty scored eight for the contest -- a career-high, while senior forward Chelsea Peck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) totaled seven points, six rebounds and three assists.

The Eagles were led by Hannah Lilly with a game-high 24 points and Jackson with a double-double of 10 points and 14 boards.

Action begins next Friday for the Spartans at 6:00 p.m. at Brandeis.
