Three-Point Barrage Aids La Verne’s Win Against Caltech

PASADENA, Calif. – The La Verne women's basketball team hit a SCIAC season high 14 three-pointer en route to a 92-47 win over Caltech on Thursday evening in the Braun Athletic Center.

The three-point mark bests the previous mark of 13 set by La Verne against Chapman. La Verne 92 point night is the third best tally by a SCIAC team this season.

The Leopards (3-13, 1-4) started the game by nailing three of their first four shots from behind the arc in taking a 9-0 lead less than two minutes into the game. Caltech (0-16, 0-5) responded with a mini-run of their own by scoring eight of the game's next 11 points to get within 11-8 at the 13:39 mark on the scoreboard.

La Verne took a double digit lead for good over with a scoring push over the next six-plus minutes. The visitors offense went on a 19-4 outburst to take control of the game. The Leopards continued to build momentum and their lead as they went into the locker room with a 40-22 lead.

During the opening frame the Leopards hit 15 field goals including a 7-for-22 effort from behind the arc to built their advantage. In that first stanza the Leopards held a 30-16 rebounding edge which translated into 11 second chance point to aid in their efforts.

The second half story was similar as the Leopards went 22-for-43 from the field while, once again, nailing seven three-pointers. Caltech got their deficit down to 14 points early but La Verne continued to pull away in taking the victory.
 
Teri Juarez posted her third double-double of the season with an 11-point, 13-rebound performance for the home-standing Beavers. Rachel Hess and Marlyn Moore each contributed a 13-point evening for Caltech.

La Verne placed five players in double figures led by Kelly Kika's 15-point effort off the bench.
