CLAREMONT, Calif.  – The Pomona-Pitzer women's basketball team harassed Caltech into 30 turnovers as they posted a 62-41 win on Saturday evening in a SCIAC match-up.

The Sagehens scored nearly 50 percent of their points from those Caltech (0-15, 0-4) miscues as the home squad held a 29-12 edge in point off turnovers.

Pomona-Pitzer (3-12, 1-3) raced out to a 15-5 lead less than five minutes into the contest as they scored on five of their first seven possessions. However, Caltech responded with a scoring spurt of their own in bringing their deficit down to 16-13 with 12:36 left until the halftime horn.

The home squad held a single digit lead for the remainder of the half until a late scoring push upped their advantage into the double figure. After a Teri Juarez lay-up with 2:11 remaining in the frame got the Beavers within 24-19, the Sagehens scored the final seven points before halftime in taking a 31-19 lead into the locker room.

Caltech got as close as 11-points after Rachel Hess hit one of two foul shots to open the second half. The Sagehens lead stayed in the 'teens until the final seven minutes of the stanza when they got their lead above 20 points to seal the victory.

The Beavers had a solid performance down low as they posted a 38-37 rebounding edge led, once again, by Juarez. The SCIAC's third leading rebounder pulled down a game high 16 boards. The performance is the seventh time this season the senior recorded double-digit rebounds.

Hess and Marlyn Moore were the top scoring tandem for the Beavers as the sophomores tallied 15 and 11 points respectively.
