DOVER, Del. – The Wesley College women's basketball team overcame an early 13-point deficit to defeat Keystone University, 58-44 on Monday night at Wentworth Gymnasium. The win gives the Wolverines a 4-13 record for the season while the Giants fall to 7-10.
Jazmine Miller nearly posted a double-double with a game-high 20 points while grabbing nine rebounds. The junior from Dover, Del., also dished out four assists and swiped four balls. Her classmate and fellow Dover native, Rachelle Allen, added 16 points and also recorded six assists and six steals. Aleisha Hobbs and Heather Fuller each pulled down 12 rebounds.
It was a tale of two halves for the Wolverines as they shot just 25.0% in the first half and found themselves down, 16-3 at the 11:04 mark in the first half. They were able to outscore Keystone, 15-11 the rest of the period and went into the locker room trailing, 27-18.
Miller set a blistering pace in the second half and scored 17 of her points in the period on 7-of-11 shooting. Her and Allen also combined for seven steals in the stanza, leading to several easy layups at the other end.
The Navy & White shot 45.7% in the second half and went on a 12-2 run to open the period, taking a 30-29 lead on a long jumper by Hobbs with 15:41 left to play. The Wolverines never trailed the rest of the way and opened up a 58-41 lead with just under two minutes left in regulation. The 17-point advantage was Wesley's largest of the season.
Wesley returns to action on Saturday, January 28 when they travel down Route 13 to take on Capital Athletic Conference nemesis, Salisbury, in a 6 pm start.
