NEW CONCORD — Senior Kara Dysert posted a double-double and became the ninth player in Ohio Northern women's basketball history to join the 1,000-point club in a 69-55 win over Muskingum at Performance Court on Saturday afternoon.
Ohio Northern improves to 14-3 overall and 8-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while Muskingum falls to 6-11 overall and 1-9 in the league.
Dysert entered the game with 987 points, and scored the 1,000th of her career on a free throw with less than a minute remaining.
She finished the game with 14 points and 10 rebounds, good for her fourth double-double of the season.
Junior Morgan Dumbaugh pitched in with a game-high 16 points and sophomore Cenzie Yoder added 12 points in ONU's winning effort.
With the Muskies leading 11-7 early in the first half, the Polar Bears went on a 16-4 run to take a 23-15 lead with 6:57 to play.
Muskingum was able to cut the lead to 25-22, but a trey from junior Joanna Snyder sparked an 8-0 ONU run to give Northern a 33-22 lead at halftime.
After a layup from Yoder, the Muskies went on a 14-1 run, capped off by a Tori Jarrett three-pointer to tie the game at 36-36 with 14:49 remaining.
With the score knotted at 41-41, Dumbaugh scored five points during a 7-0 ONU run to give the Polar Bears a 48-41 advantage at the 10:54 mark.
Ohio Northern then used an 11-2 run over a span of more than six minutes to take command of the game with a 59-46 lead with 4:28 left in the game.
Muskingum was unable to cut the lead to less than 11 points as ONU closed out the 69-55 lead.
Hannah Nelson led the Muskies with team-highs of 14 points and nine rebounds.
The Polar Bears will return home Wednesday night when they host Otterbein in a key OAC matchup at 7:30 p.m.
