DUBUQUE, Iowa - Coe College shot just 20.7 percent in the first half and 26.9 percent for the game, as they dropped their second Iowa Conference game of the year 56-41 to Loras. Coe had the lead down to four in the second half after trailing by 17 at the half.
Coe got back-to-back baskets by seniorKayla Waskow (Dunkerton, Iowa/Dunkerton) and junior Caitlin Kray (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) with 10:38 to play in the first half, cutting the Loras lead to 14-10. The Duhawks responded with a 17-4 run to end the first half, holding Coe to just two baskets, both by Waskow, during the stretch. Coe went nearly eight minutes during the stretch without a point, as the Duhawks led 31-14 at the break.
The Kohawks opened the second half on a 9-2 run, as they cut the lead to 10 with 16:55 to play. With 7:51 to play, freshman Megan Hayes (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf) hit a jumper, as Coe scored 10-straight points over the next 3:02. Hayes and Waskow scored all 10 points on the run, with the final eight coming at the free throw line. Coe wouldn't score again in the last 4:48 of the game, as the Duhawks ended the half on an 11-0 run.
Coe's 41 points and 26.9 percent shooting were a season-low. Waskow finished with a game-high 17 points, as she passed former teammate Kayla Lincoln for fourth on the all-time points list with 1,132. Senior Leslie Ware (Des Moines, Iowa/Johnston), Hayes and sophomore Mackenzie Reed (Iowa City, Iowa/West) all added six points. With two treys on the day, Ware became the first player in school history to have 40 or more 3-pointers in three different seasons. Lindsey LaBadie led the Duhawks with 14 points.
Sophomore Mary Halvorson (Waterville, Iowa/Waukon) had a team-high seven rebounds, while Waskow added five. Waskow had three assists and blocked two shots, while Hayes blocked two shots. Halvorson also had two steals.
The Kohawks will return to action on Wednesday, as they host Central. The two teams met Dec. 7 in Pella, with the Kohawks winning 74-60. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Eby Fieldhouse.
