Lady Choctaws Win Fourth Straight, 59-50, Over Ozarks

CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi College women's basketball won their fourth consecutive game with a 59-50 victory over Ozarks on Saturday afternoon in A.E. Wood Coliseum.

The Lady Choctaws (10-6, 8-4 ASC) held their sixth consecutive opponent under 36% shooting in the victory.  The Lady Eagles (8-9, 6-8 ASC) only shot 30% (19-64) from the floor in the loss.

Head coach Paul Allen Duke won the 302nd game of his career, and in the process, got to double-digits in wins for the 17th time in 17 seasons.

Ozarks grabbed a 10-6 lead on a free throw by April Young with 12:12 remaining in the first half.  MC tightened up and held the Lady Eagles to just six points over the rest of the period as the Lady Choctaws took a 26-16 advantage into the halftime break.

MC opened the second half on an 11-0 run to take a 37-16 lead with 14:58 to go.  The Lady Eagles chipped away and Lacey Phillips made a layup to cut the lead to 47-40 with just over five minutes remaining.

Ozarks could get no closer and MC made 8-10 free throws over the final two mintues to clinch the victory.

Junior Caitlin Brown led the Lady Choctaws, recording a career-high 16 points and 11 rebounds.  Junior Ebony Williams scored 10 points, pulled down nine rebounds, and tallied five assists for MC.

For the Lady Eagles, Sabrina Goddard led the way with 23 points on 8-22 shooting.  Goddard also paced Ozarks with nine boards.  As a team, Ozarks went 4-25 (16%) from the three-point line, including April Young going 1-11.

The Lady Choctaws were strong on the glass, outrebounding the Lady Eagles, 44-38.

MC will hit the road next week to face LeTourneau on Thursday night in Longview, TX.
