Rochester Surges Past Case; Yellowjackets Go to 15-0.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Danielle McNabb scored 18 points to lead three starters in double figures as the University of Rochester matched its best start in school history with a 73-61 victory over Case Western Reserve at the Louis Alexander Palestra.

McNabb collected eight rebounds and three assists. She hit six of nine from the floor, five of six from the line. Kristyn Wright added 16 points, including four three point goals, and Laney Ming scored 14 points. She made 10 of 10 from the foul line.

Erin Hollinger scored 17 points for Case (8-7 overall, 1-3 in the University Athletic Association). Erica Iafelice had 13 points, four assists, and four steals. Evy Iacono  scored 12 points before fouling out

Rochester improved to 15-0 overall, 4-0 UAA. The 15-0 start matches the start of the 2003-04 team and the 2008-09 team. The 2004 team had its streak snapped in Cleveland by Case Western Reserve in double overtime. The 2009 team lost at home to Chicago, then beat the Maroons two weeks later on the road.

The Yellowjackets took control early, leading by as many as 24 points in the first half. It was 14 by halftime (43-29). Three players contributed to a 7-0 run early in the second half, moving Rochester in front, 50-31. 

Case used a 9-0 run (four points from Erin Reynolds) to pull within 57-48 with 11:16 left.  After two free throws by Ming, Hollinger (five points) and Iacono  (three) scored all the points in an 8-0 burst that got the Spartans within 59-56 with 5:10 left. The lead was still four with 2:42 remaining before McNabb made two free throws and followed with a three-pointer a minute later. That put Rochester ahead by nine, 67-58, with less than 90 seconds to play.
