Lady Choctaws Stifle Comets, 44-42

CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi College women's basketball team won their third consecutive game with a 44-42 victory over Texas-Dallas on Thursday night in A.E. Wood Coliseum.

The Lady Choctaws (9-6, 7-4 ASC) snapped the Comets' (15-2, 11-2) nine-game winning streak by holding them to just 29% shooting from the floor.

UTD jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the early going, but MC bounced back and took a 23-22 advantage with :51 seconds remaining in the first half.  Lyndsey Smith made a three-pointer in the final seconds to give the Comets a 25-23 lead at the break.

In the second half, MC went on a 10-1 run over the first 10 minutes to take a 33-26 lead.  The Comets did not convert on their first field goal until 10:21 mark when Christina Brosnahan made a layup.

The Lady Choctaws' defense held the Comets to just 19% (5-26) shooting in the second half, including going 1-10 from the three-point line.

MC held their largest lead of the game with 4:01 remaining when junior Ebony Williams made a jumper to make the score 42-34.  Smith nailed another big three-pointer with :06 seconds to go to cut the lead to just 43-42.

After a foul, junior Caitlin Brown made one of two free throws to set up the final five seconds.  Smith drove into the lane, but her runner went wide, and the Choctaws clinched the victory.

Brown led the Lady Choctaws with 13 points on 4-10 shooting.  Junior Traci Rodgers tallied 12 points, making all four of her free throws.

For the Comets, Smith led the way with 19 points on 7-17 shooting, including going 3-7 from behind the arc.  Brittany Houston scored 12 points and pulled down nine boards for UTD.

The Lady Choctaws converted 24 Texas-Dallas turnovers into 25 points.

MC will move on to face Ozarks on Saturday afternoon in the "Golden Dome" at 3:00 p.m.
