LaGRANGE, Ga. – Huntingdon women's basketball coach Buzz Phillips wanted to see how his team would respond Wednesday night.

Coming off back-to-back losses to Great South Athletic Conference rivals Maryville and Agnes Scott, the Lady Hawks bounced back with a 74-67 win over conference leader LaGrange.

"This was a great win at a crucial time," Phillips said. "We were coming off a tough game against Maryville on Saturday and a sloppy performance at Agnes Scott on Monday, when we didn't have our heads in the game. To come over here and get a win against the conference leader, that's huge for us.

"Before the game, I told the girls it didn't matter how good LaGrange was or what their stats looked like. I just wanted to see our girls give our best effort. We talked about playing with heart and dedication and our girls showed those attributes tonight. This was a complete team win."

This was the Lady Hawks' first win over LaGrange since February 2009 and snapped a four-game losing streak to the Panthers. This was the first time Huntingdon (9-6, 4-2 GSAC) has won at LaGrange (11-5, 7-1 GSAC) since January 2006, a span of six games.

The Lady Hawks lost 109-57 at LaGrange last season.

"It feels really good to get this win, especially after losing the way we did on Monday," Huntingdon sophomore Raven Prater said. "This was a good win for our program. It's a win all of us wanted, especially our seniors. LaGrange beat us pretty bad last year and it's exciting to be able to win at their place."

Prater, junior Morgan Crawford and freshman Patricia Pickens combined to score 57 points on Wednesday. Crawford scored a game-high 20 points, one short of her career-high at Huntingdon. Pickens matched her career-high with 19 points and Prater set a new career-best with 18 points.

"We all came together and played as a team," Prater said. "We all stepped up, did the things we were supposed to and played our roles. That was the difference tonight."

Crawford also had nine rebounds. Tanjanik Munford pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds and Sekal Ousley added six rebounds. LaTerial Williams had a season-high six assists.

Huntingdon returns to action at home on Saturday. The Lady Hawks host Covenant at noon.
