Reading, Pa. (Jan. 18, 2012) - The Crusaders (7-7, 2-3 Comm.) outscored the Lions from Albright (4-12, 0-5 Comm.) 40-29 in the second half to post a 74-59 win this evening in Commonwealth Conference action at Alvernia. Alvernia escaped the first half with a slight 34-30 lead thanks to 11 first-half points from Angela Altemose (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM). Altemose finished the game with a game-high and career high 30 points.
The game started as a back-and-forth affair with Alvernia taking a quick four-point lead before relinquishing it right back to the Lions as they then took a four-point lead four minutes in. The Crusaders tied it up at ten after a lay-up from Alisa Greco (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) at 15:11. After another tie, at 15, the Crusaders grew their lead to five with a lay-up from Kaitlyn Yoh (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) at 8:33. After eight points from the Lions Alvernia again saw a five-point lead, 30-25 at 2:40 and eventually closed out the half with a four-point lead.
The second half was all Alvernia as they never gave up the lead and led by as much as 18, aided by 19 from Altemose. The Lions looked like they might come back to life as they closed the gap to seven at 12:02, but a
Altemose finished with her career-high 30 points and nine rebounds, Yoh added 13 points and tied her career-high seven assists. Jenny Knoebel led the way for the Lions with 19 points and five rebounds, while Meghan Boyle added 14 points and a game-high ten rebounds.
The Crusaders return to action on Jan. 21 when they travel to Elizabethtown for a conference match-up beginning at 1:00pm.
