The Lakeland College women's basketball team had its six-game winning streak snapped on Monday night, losing 56-53 to visiting Northern Athletics Conference North division foe Maranatha Baptist Bible College.

The Muskies (9-5, 4-4 NAC) were sluggish from the start and never found a rhythm at either end of the court as they were outplayed by the Crusaders.

Maranatha (8-5, 3-5 NAC) led for much of the first half, taking their largest lead, 17-10, at the 10:24 mark. The Muskies were able to fight back and take a 25-24 lead into the break. In the h alf, the Crusaders outscored Lakeland 16-8 in the paint and out-rebounded the Muskies, 24-20.

Lakeland shot just 27.8 percent (10-for-36) from the field, 42.9 percent (3-for-7) from the 3-point line and committed 10 turnovers in the first half. Maranatha shot 38.5 percent (10-for-26) from the field and missed all five of their 3-point shots.

Sophomore Jessica Genke (Kiel, Wis.) led the Muskies with six first-half points while junior Dana Henrichs (Fall Creek, Wis.) had a team-high seven rebounds.

Lakeland seemed to gain some control in the second half, stretching their lead to 11, 50-39, with 7:46 left in the game. However, the Crusaders got hot from behind the arc and went on a 12-0 run to take a 51-50 lead at the 3:06 mark. After trading baskets, an Autumn Peotter 3-pointer with 9.1 seconds left gave the Crusaders the 3-point victory.

The Muskies shot just 33.3 percent (11-for-33) from the field and 14.3 percent (1-for-7) from the 3-point line in the second half while Maranatha shot 52.2 percent (12-for-23) from the field and 80 percent (4-for-5) from behind the arc.

Overall the Muskies finished shooting 30.4 percent from the field, 28.6 percent from the arc and 87.5 percent (7-for-8) from the free throw line. Lakeland had 41 rebounds and 20 turnovers. The Crusaders finished the game shooting 44.9 percent from the field, 40 percent from the 3-point line and 57.1 percent (8-for-14) from the charity stripe. Maranatha totaled 38 rebounds and 27 turnovers.

Henrichs finished the game with 10 points and a career-high 10 rebounds, her first career double-double. Junior Becky Mayo (Gladstone, Mich.) and sophomore Leah Eisner (Stevens Point, Wis.) each had 10 points while Genke finished with seven points and 10 rebounds.

Lakeland returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 18, when the Muskies travel to Fond Du Lac, Wis. to face NAC North rival Marian University. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
