Balanced and Timely '3's Push Rochester Past NYU

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Rochester used balanced scoring and timely three-point shooting to defeat NYU, 58-45, at the Coles Sports Center in lower Manhattan on Sunday.

With the win, the Yellowjackets improve to 14-0 overall, 3-0 in the University Athletic Association. Rochester is ranked fifth this week in the D3hoops.com poll and sixth by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. NYU is 9-5 overall, 1-2 UAA. 

Kristyn Wright scored a team-high 12 points for Rochester, including seven of 10 from the foul line. She scored nine points in the second half. Jackie Walker added nine points and six rebounds. Jodie Luther had eight points, Laney Ming six points. Danielle McNabb scored three points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Cara Bonito scored 12 points for NYU, Shelby Coon had 10 points and nine rebounds. Bianca Storts had six points, eight rebounds, and four assists for the Violets.

Rochester hit six of 13 outside the arc (46%), 17 of 47 overall (36%). The Yellowjackets made 18 of 24 from the foul line (75%). NYU shot 25% from the field (14 of 56) and made one of eight outside the arc (13%). The Violets were 16 of 19 from the line. 

Michelle Ketcham and Wright hit three-point goals midway through the first half as the Yellowjackets moved into a 20-12 lead. Loren Wagner sank two layups and Kelly Scull hit a three to open Rochester's biggest lead, 33-14, with 2:30 left in the first half. NYU closed the half with seven straight points. 

In the second half, a layup by Whitney Hooper got NYU within 38-31 at 12:58. Ally Zywicki answered with a three-pointer for Rochester 18 seconds later. It was 41-31 and the Violets never got closer than nine after that.
