OSWEGO, N.Y. - The Oswego State women's basketball team got back into the win column on Saturday afternoon with a critical 55-49 win over Oneonta at Laker Hall.  Less than 24 hours after being out-rebounded, the Lakers (9-5, 4-3 SUNYAC) responded by out-rebounding the Red Dragons, 42-32, to hand Oneonta its first conference loss of the season to move to 8-5 overall and 6-1 in the league.  The key stat of the game, though, was Oswego State sinking 18 of 21 free throws, while Oneonta went 7-for-8 from the charity stripe. 

Meagan Stover (Jr., Lake George, N.Y.) came up a rebound short of recording a double-double, as she posted 15 points and nine rebounds to go along with three steals.  Kayla Ryan (Sr., Schaghticoke, N.Y) and Kassie Kleine (Jr., Cazenovia, N.Y.) joined Stover in double figures with 16 and 11 points, respectively. 

Alyshia Crawford came off the bench to pace the Red Dragons with 16 points, while Madison Slagle had an all-around game with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Neither squad held more than a three-point lead in the first half until Paula Egelston (So., Fultonville, N.Y.) found Kleine open for a three-point shot that gave the Lakers a 28-23 advantage with 1:46 left.  Crawford made a layup with under a minute to play to pull Oneonta back to within three points at halftime.

Oswego State clung to the lead in the second half until another Crawford layup evened the score at 33-33 with 10:53 remaining in the contest.  On the ensuing possession, Stover drained a pair of free throws to fuel seven unanswered Laker points, giving the home team a 40-33 edge.  The Red Dragons pulled to within two points with 7:50 on the clock, but Oswego State made 11 of its 12 free throws the rest of the way to hold off a late Oneonta charge.

Both teams struggled to make shots as Oswego State was 16-of-55 from the field (29.1 percent) and the Red Dragons went 19-for-55 (34.1 percent).

Oswego State hosts Cortland next Saturday at 6 p.m.
