Pointers run past Blue Devils in second half

STEVENS POINT (January 11, 2012) - UW-Stout was within striking range after one half, but 11th ranked UW-Stevens Point ran past the young Blue Devils in the second half to a 73-46 win Wednesday at Berg Gymnasium.

Stout's Whitney Rawdon (Jr, Eau Claire) scored 10 first half points and the Blue (4-11, 0-6) trailed 34-25 at halftime. But the Pointers (13-2, 5-1) held Stout to fewer second half points and increased their own point total for the win.

Stout did manage to force 28 Stevens Point turnovers, of which 17 of them came on steals. Ronnie Moltzau (Fr, Eleva) finished with five steals and Rawdon had three.

Stout shot 31 percent (18-58) from the floor, and 15.4 percent (2-13) from 3-point range. The Pointers shot 41.7 percent (25-60) from the floor and 30.8 percent (4-13) from beyond the arc. The Pointers hit on 19-of-21 free throws.

Rawdon led Stout, but was shut out in the second half. Katelynne Folkers (Fr, Fall Creek) had eight points.

The Pointers had three players in double digits with Alyssa Olp and Myranda Tyler each scoring 13 points. Liz Althoff added 10 points.

Stout will host UW-Oshkosh Saturday, Jan. 14 at 4 p.m. and UW-La Crosse, Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m.
