Ravens Snap 14-game Losing Streak Against Cabrini

ROSEMONT, Pa. - The Rosemont women's basketball team had the goods tonight to defeat the visiting Cabrini Cavaliers for the first time since 1/15/2005; a stretch of 14-straight games, winning by a final score of 65-57. The Ravens move to 6-7 (2-5 CSAC) with the win, their first in the new year. The Cavaliers fell to 6-7 (4-2 CSAC) with the result.

The Ravens won the game in wire-to-wire fashion, but were never able to get a big separation from Cabrini. The largest lead of the game was a 12-pointer at 16-4 only 8:25 into the game. The Cavaliers edged back to within two points, outscoring Rosemont 10-0 to make it 16-14 only 6:09 later, and with only 33 seconds remaining in the first half the score was 28-27 in favor of Rosemont. The Ravens ultimately took a 30-27 lead into the lockers at the half.

Starting the second half the Ravens slowly distanced themselves from Cabrini, opening up a 10-point lead at 43-33 with 13:45 left, but the Cavaliers refused to go away, ultimately working themselves back to within two points at 59-57 with just under two minutes remaining. From there the Raven's defense allowed no more points, while scoring the last six points of the game to secure the win.

Four Ravens hit double-figures. Liz Coyne (Fr./Downingtown West/West Chester, PA) led the Ravens with 16 points. Coyne just missed a double-double with nine rebounds. Ashley Montecchio (Jr./Sun Valley/Aston, PA) scored 14 while Alex Gravinese (Fr./Audubon, NJ) scored 10 and Nymira Nelson (Fr./Arch. Ryan/Philadelphia) added 10 for the home side. Vanessa Johnson (Sr./GW Carver/Philadelphia) was a force in the paint, nabbing 14 boards and scoring eight.

Cabrini's Brittany Sandone led her team with 17 points.

The Ravens hope to build on their momentum when they travel to Keystone College for a CSAC game on Saturday, 1/14 in La Plume, Pa. Game time is scheduled for 1:00pm.
