BC Women Use Big 2nd Half To Fly By Falcons, 75-50

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball Team got back in the win column on Wednesday evening as theyused a 48-point second half to run their way to a 75-50 victory over visiting Albertus Magnus. Brooklyn improves to 9-5 on the season, winning three of their last four, while the Falcons fell to 8-4 on the year.

After taking a 27-22 lead into the locker room, the Bulldogs came out on fire to begin the second half, as consecutive Tiffany Thompson baskets, and a three-pointer by Lauren Plagainos, gave BC the first seven points of the period, extending the lead to 12.

Albertus Magnus answered with a jumper by Lianna Carrero, but BC got another long distance shot from Charnelle Saint Laurent to extend the lead to 13.

The teams would trade baskets on, followed by a Carrero layup to cut the deficit to 11, but Plagainos once again hit a long three to give her team the 42-28 advantage with 15:13 to play. Over the next five minutes, Brooklyn on a 13-8 run, capped by a Melissa St. Louis steal and layup to push the Bulldog lead to 19, 55-36.

The Falcons would cut the deficit to 16, but would get no closer as Brooklyn ran away with the 25-point victory.

"This was the type of game we needed," said Head Coach Alex Lang after the game. "We started slowly but we shot the ball like we are capable of doing in the second half and once we opened that lead we never let up. Our team is slowly coming together and when our chemistry meets our talent level we are going to be a force."

Plagainos was the leading scorer on the evening, notching 21 points on 8-13 from the field. Saint Laurent added 13 and four assists, while Thompson posted a double-double of 12 points and 11 boards to accompany a game-high four blocks.

St. Louis chipped in with six points, seven boards, four steals and three assists, while Nicole Francomano had a game-high seven assists. In addition, 12 of the 13 players who suited up got into the scoring column for the Bulldogs.

Carrero led the Falcons with 16 points, while Bianca Brown just missed a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Brooklyn will remain at home for their next game as they host Hunter College on Saturday at 12:30 pm in the West Quad Center. The game will feature the only two undefeated teams in the CUNY Athletic Conference as both teams are presently 3-0 in league play.
