Ewing, N.J. (Jan. 9, 2012) - The College of New Jersey (10-5) went on a 13-2 run early in the second half to turn a one-point edge into a 12-point lead en route to a 72-53 win over Alvernia University (5-6) Monday evening in non-conference women's basketball action at TCNJ.
The Crusaders took the early lead then fell behind by double-digits before battling back to within three at the halftime break. Senior Angela Altemose (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM) scored the first bucket of the second half to close to a one-point deficit, but scored eight straight and 13 of the next 15 to take control.
Alvernia did put 12 players into the scoring column--led by 10 points from Kelli McIntyre (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain)--but shot just 28 percent from the floor for the game while the Lions finished at 37 percent. Jessica Imhof led all players with 21 points hitting 10-of-11 from the free throw stripe.
Alvernia returns home and will also return to the conference schedule hosting Arcadia as part of a men's and women's doubleheader on Wednesday.
