Bloodhounds No Match For Lightning in Blowout Win

More news about: Lehman

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Jaleesa Gordon notched her fourth straight double-digit scoring game on Friday night, tallying 25 points, pulling down 12 rebounds and blocking three shots as Lehman defeated host John Jay College 72-48 to get back to the .500 mark at 7-7.

Senior Leslie Mencia added a double-double of her own with 18 points (6-15 FG, 3-7 3FG) and 11 rebounds.

The Lightning held John Jay to just 28.3 percent shooting and forced the Bloodhounds into 32 turnovers.  Additionally, Lehman received nice contributions off the bench from Alicia McDaniel (8 points, 4 rebounds, 20 minutes) and Paula Robinson (6 points, 4 assists, 5 steals, 34 minutes).

It didn't take long for Lehman to take control of Friday's contest, as Mencia opened the game with six straight points to help Lehman jump out to a 10-0 lead.  Following a three-pointer by John Jay's Tyana Hale, the Lightning went on a 17-3 run.  When Danielle Eagan knocked down a jumper with  9:48 remaining before halftime, the Lightning was comfortably in front 27-8.

The Bloodhounds did their best to make a game of it, closing to 33-20 on a three-pointer by Eagan, but a Mencia three in advance of halftime allowed the Lightning to head to the locker room up 41-20.

Eagan's third three-pointer of the game came four minutes into the second half and cut John Jay's deficit to 45-27, which proved to be the closest it would get the remainder of the game.  Lehman pushed its advantage to as many as 28 points several times before the final buzzer sounded.

The win improves Lehman's conference record to 2-1.

The Lightning will face a stiff test in its next contest, a non-conference road game against No. 15 ranked University of Mary Washington on Monday afternoon.
