Altemose Scores Double-Double In Crusaders' Win

Reading, Pa. (Jan. 7, 2012) – Senior forward Angela Altemose (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM) totaled 19 points and 11 rebounds to carry Alvernia University (5-5) to a 65-57 win over Stevenson University (5-7) in non-conference women's basketball action at the Physical Education Center.
 
Senior Kelli McIntyre (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain) scored the first and last for the Crusaders in a 6-0 run that pushed the lead from one to seven with just over a minute to play and the Crusaders held on to snap a modest two-game losing streak.
 
Altemose finished the game 7-for-10 from the floor and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.  McIntyre returned after missing five games with an injury and went 6-for-19 from the floor for 13 points.  Julie Hahn (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) also reached double figures with 14.
 
Sam Murray finished a back and forth first half with an offensive putback and the Mustangs trailed by three at the break, 29-26.  They had the gap down to one point on two occasions early in the second half, but never held a second-half lead.  Their last lead of the game was a 14-13 lead midway through the first half.
 
Daniela Poss led the way with 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Mustangs.  Murray scored a dozen, and Abby DeFeo scored 10 points off the bench.
 
Alvernia travels to The College of New Jersey on Monday for another non-conference tilt then returns to conference play Wednesday hosting Arcadia in the second half of a men's and women's doubleheader.
