Providence, R.I.-Senior guard Cynthia Gaudet (Coventry, RI) tallied a game-high 15 points to go along with five assists and three rebounds, while senior forward Rachel Riley (Coventry, RI) posted nine points, 11 rebounds, six blocks and three assists, in Rhode Island College's, 60-37, thrashing of UMass Boston on Saturday at The Murray Center.

RIC (9-2, 3-0 LEC) held UMass Boston (4-9, 0-3 LEC) to a paltry 18 percent shooting effort from the field, including just 2-of-19 shooting from beyond the three-point arc. The Anchorwomen also used their stingy defensive effort to force 24 turnovers, finishing the game with 15 steals.

Offensively, Rhode Island College benefited from a balanced scoring attack and brilliant ball-movement, as the team finished with 18 assists, while nine different Anchorwomen recorded two or more points in the game.

UMass Boston jumped out to an early lead in the opening minutes of the ballgame thanks to a pair of treys from freshman guard Lauren Perra (Taunton, MA), making it, 8-2, with 18:13 left to play. However, the Anchorwomen responded with 13 unanswered points over the next five minutes, as a layup from junior forward Courtney Burns (Rockland, MA) gave RIC a 15-8 lead with 13:51 on the clock in the first half.

After four straight points from freshman center Kirsten Morrison (North Reading, MA) cut RIC's lead to just four with 13:00 minutes remaining, the two teams proceeded to trade baskets for nearly 10 straight minutes with the Anchorwomen holding the advantage. A pair of free throws from Morrison cut the Beacons' deficit to just five with four minutes remaining in the first frame, but Rhode Island College would close out the first half with six consecutive points, taking a 33-22 lead into the break.

The Anchorwomen stormed out of the gate in the second half, as a basket from senior guard Stephanie Coro (North Providence, RI) capped off a 13-0 run through the first four minutes of the second stanza to give RIC a commanding, 46-22, lead. The Beacons had no answer for the Anchorwomen going forward, as the visitors were held to just 15 points in the second half.

Coro finished with nine points, seven rebounds, and four steals, while sophomore guard Stephanie Prusko (Lincoln, RI) netted seven points off the bench in the win. Burns had another solid effort for RIC, as she tallied six points, four boards, and two steals, while senior guard Nicole Girard (Foster, RI) totaled five points and three rebounds.

Morrison notched a team-high 14 points to go along with eight rebounds and three assists. Junior guard Teresa Pina (Boston, MA) tallied six points and five rebounds, while Perra also registered six points in the loss. Senior forward Molly Rattigan (Dorchester, MA) recorded a team-high 10 rebounds for the Beacons.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference play at home against Southern Maine on Tuesday, Jan. 10 (5:30 p.m.).
