ATLANTA, Ga - Rochester used contributions throughout the lineup and posted a 76-64 victory over Emory University at the Woodruff PE Center on Saturday afternoon.
It was the University Athletic Association opener for all eight teams. This game matched the two highest-scoring offenses in the league. Rochester improved to 11-0 overall, 1-0 in the UAA. Emory is 8-3, 0-1.
Jodie Luther scored 20 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Yellowjackets. Laney Ming had 13 points and six rebounds. Madeline Korber scored eight points, grabbed eight boards, and blocked four shots. Jackie Walker had nine points, eight boards, and three assists. Amy Woods contributed eight points.
Emory's Hannah Lilly led all scorers with 21 points. She grabbed seven rebounds. Misha Jackson scored 10 points and hauled in eight rebounds. Danielle Landry had eight points and six boards while Savannah Morgan scored eight points - all in the first half.
Rochester shot 50% from the floor (31-62) and made 4 of 11 outside the arc. Emory hit 32.9% from the field (26-79) and 26.1% outside the arc (6-23). The Yellowjackets held a 49-38 rebounding edge.
Emory scored 20 points off 20 Rochester turnovers. Rochester had 16 points off 12 Emory giveaways. The Yellowjackets scored 16 points off the fast break and got a big boost from the bench which outscored the Emory reserves, 28-9.
Jackson's layup seven minutes into the game tied the scored at 15-15. Walker knocked down a three-point goal from Ally Zywicki to start at 7-0 run over the next two minutes. The Yellowjackets never surrendered that lead. It eventually grew to 11 points, 30-19, on a jumper by Kristyn Wright with 6:26 left. Rochester led, 41-30, at the half.
Rochester's biggest lead was 15, coming after a jumper by Zywicki off the fast break (64-49 at 8:59). Lilly scored five points and Jackson poured in four to get the Eagles within 64-58 with 6:32 on the clock.
Ming, Walker, and Korber all made layups in the next two minutes and the lead was back to 12, 70-58. Walker and Ming sank two free throws each in the final 1:12 to wrap it up.
