Baruch Stumbles Against Rival Hunter (63-51)

The Baruch College Bearcats suffered a 63-51 road defeat to their rival the Hawks of Hunter College in a CUNYAC contest played on Friday night at the Hunter Sportsplex in New York City.

The Hawks shot 49 percent (25-51) from the field and led throughout a majority of the contest to raise their CUNYAC record to 3-0, while the Bearcats drop to 2-1.

The visiting Bearcats struggled from the field this evening shooting 32.8 percent (22-67), including 1-of-14 from 3-point range (0-9 in first half). They committed only nine turnovers, but were out-rebounded (48-37) as the Hawks snapped a 12-game losing streak to the Bearcats.

The Hawks led by as much as 13 points (40-27) with 14:01 remaining, but the Bearcats rallied all the way back to tie the contest at 42 on a pair of free throws by
Sheridan Taylor. The Hawks quickly responded with a game-busting 11-0 run to go back on top again, 53-42.

Unfortunately, the Bearcats were never able to recover as they even their season record at 6-6.


Kiara Johnsonwas the lone player in double-figure scoring this evening with 13 points. Toni Fennfinished with nine points (4-6 fg).

Nicole Lenard led the Hawks with a game-high 20 points.

Baruch will return to action on Sunday, January 8, with a 2:00 pm contest against Ivy League and Division I Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut.
