BERKHEISER LEADS RAMAPO IN 77-37 WIN OVER MEDGAR EVERS

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team defeated Medgar Evers College, 77-37 tonight in the opening round of the 2011-2012 Roadrunner Tip Off Tournament. The Roadrunners improve to 2-0 while the Cougars fall to 0-3 on the season.

The Roadrunners got on the board and never looked back as Faith Flannery scored a basket off the opening tip before Jackie Jerkovich scored three straight to take a 8-0 lead with 18:23. The team went on a 9-0 run capped off by Kelly Haspel's three-pointer at 14:46 she was assisted by Jerkovich. Ramapo's biggest lead came at 5:32 when Lindsey Jachens drained a jumper for a 27-point lead, 42-15.

Kayla Berkheiser made two foul shots to take a 49-21 lead (1:26) before she closed out the half with a jumper at the buzzer as the Roadrunners took a 51-25 lead at the half.

The Roadrunners scored 27 points off of Medgar Evers turnovers while Ramapo received 31 points off the bench. Ramapo shot 58% from the field in the half and 87% from the foul line.

Ramapo jumped out to a 40 point lead in the second half with 8:38 to go in the second half with two made foul shots by Ashley Morella before they took their biggest lead of the game 77-42 with 1:28 by Berkheiser she was assisted by Morella.

The Roadrunners shot 91% from the foul line in the game and 47% from the field while they pulled down 38 rebounds and dished out 23 assists. Berkheiser led the Roadrunners with ten points and a team high seven rebounds while she dished out three assists. Haspel posted nine points and a team high six assists and three steals while Lindsey Gripenburg, Jerkovich and Tierney Henderson each added eight points. Flannery dished out five points and one steal while scoring four points and Alexa Ryan posted seven points, two assists and three steals.

The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow at 3:00pm when they host Purchase College in the Championship game of the Roadrunner Tip Off Tournament. Medgar Evers and Penn State Berks will play at 1:00pm in the consolation game.
