RAMAPO DOWNS BEARCATS, 79-64

Huntingdon, PA: The Ramapo College women's basketball team opened the 2011 Juniata Holiday Classic with a 79-64 win over Saint Vincent College. The Roadrunners improve to 8-2 overall while Bearcats suffer their second loss of the season, 8-2 overall. The Bearcats received votes in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 poll.

The Roadrunners only trailed for the first two minutes of the game before taking a one point lead on a three pointer by Jackie Jerkovich, 5-4 with 18:25 on the clock in the first half. Ramapo extended their lead to six twice during the half before going on a 13-2 run to take an 11 point lead, 25-14 with 6:21 left on the clock. Over the next four minutes Ramapo outscored the Bearcats 11-1 to extend their lead to 21, 36-15 with 2:32 on the clock capped off by a layup by Michaela Moore. The Roadrunners went into the locker room with a 40-22 lead as Brittany Howes hit a jumper as time expired.

In the second half the Bearcats cut the lead to nine, 62-53 on a made foul shot by Brittany Sedlock before Jerkovich hit a big three pointer for Ramapo, 65-53, which sparked a 6-2 run that was capped off by Alexa Ryan's made foul shot with 3:12 (68-55) left to go in the game. The Roadrunners capitalized on their opportunities down the stretch to extend their lead to 15, 79-64.

Ryan led the Roadrunners with 17 points while Jerkovich, Lindsey Gripenburg and Howes each added ten points. Jerkovich collected six rebounds and a team high six steals while Howes grabbed five rebounds, two assists and one steal. Moore finished the game with a team high nine rebounds and eight points. Faith Flannery added nine points, three assists and two steals while Kelly Haspel dished out five assists.

Ramapo shot 55% (29-52) from the field in the game as the defense held the Bearcats to 35% from the field (23-65). Ramapo grabbed 41 rebounds to St. Vincent's 33. The Roadrunners shot 69% from the foul line (16-23).

The Roadrunners will take on host Juniata tomorrow at 4:00 PM.
