Second Half Baruch Rally Falls Short, DeSales Wins 80-75

The Bulldogs of DeSales University defeated the Baruch College Bearcats, 80-75, in a non-conference contest played on Tuesday night in the ARC Arena.

The Bearcats trailed by as much as 12 points (56-44) midway through the second half, but they chipped away at the deficit and managed to take a brief lead of 72-71 on a jumper by
Jessica Dulebawith 2:28 left.

DeSales finished the game with a 9-3 run in the final two minutes to end a two-game losing streak to the Bearcats.  

DeSales struggled in the first half shooting 23.5 percent (8-of-34), but exploded in the second half by shooting 54.3 percent (19-of-35) en route to the victory.


Kiara Johnsonled the Bearcats this evening with 19 points (5-9 3fg) and five assists, while Folashade Akindeand Duleba finished with 12 points each. Duleba also added 11 rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Toni Fennrounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points, seven rebounds, five blocks and two steals in 17 minutes of action.  

Sondrine Glovas led visiting DeSales with 17 points and four steals.

The Bearcats will quickly return to action tomorrow night, Wednesday, January 4, with a 5:00 pm CUNYAC road contest at John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
