UW-Stout presses way to overtime win over MCLA

GORHAM, Maine (December 31, 2011) - A halfcourt press by UW-Stout late in the game forced overtime and the Blue Devils went on to defeat Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) 78-72 at the University of Southern Maine Holiday Classic Saturday.

The press by Stout forced numerous turnovers by Massachusetts College of Liberal (MCLA) late in regulation, allowing the Blue Devils to overcome a 10 point deficit and take a five point lead. But it was a press by MCLA that forced a pair of Stout turnovers and the Trailblazers took a lead. Stout's Ronnie Moltzau (Fr, Eleva) scored with eight seconds remaining to send the game into overtime.

Stout held a six-point halftime lead, only to see MCLA take as much as a 10-point second half lead when Stout put the press on.

The Blue Devils got 14 points by Brea Boomer (Fr, Grand Portage, Minn), 12 in the second half. Whitney Rawdon (Jr, Eau Claire) led Stout with 15 points, nine in the second half and Katelynne Folkers (Fr, Fall Creek) had 12 points.

MCLA's Jen Wehner broke the  MCLA all time scoring mark in the game and finished the game with 16 points and pulled down 18 rebounds. Lucy Trembley led all scorers with 19 points. Alie Dobrovolc scored 13 points and Danielle Scolpino added 11.

Stout returns to conference action Wednesday, Jan. 4 when they travel to UW-Eau Claire for a 6 p.m. meeting.
