Blugold Women's Basketball Ends Texas Trip Undefeated

SHERMAN, Texas (Blugolds.com) – Playing three games over the last four days in Texas, the UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team completed its trip with a 66-32 victory over Austin College today.

Earlier this week, the Blugolds picked up an 81-34 win Wednesday against Trinity (Texas) and a 72-62 victory over Southwestern (Texas) on Thursday. Eau Claire has now won eight straight games dating back to November 26 and improves to 11-2 on the season.

The Blugolds had little trouble in today's game as they led the entire way.

Holding Austin College scoreless for the first two and a half minutes, the Blugolds steadily increased their lead throughout the first half. They opened with a 9-2 run over the first five minutes of play and then increased their lead to 10 points (16-6) with just over seven minutes to play in the half.

The rest of the half, the Blugolds continued to increase their lead, getting up by as much as 18 points with less than a minute to play. Eau Claire took a 16-point lead into halftime (31-15).

In the second half, Austin managed just four points over the first seven minutes as the Blugolds built a 24-point lead (43-19). The Blugolds reached their largest lead of the day, 36 points, with just over a minute remaining as the score was 66-30. Austin hit one final basket to make the score 66-32.

Nicole Christianson (Sr.-Chetek, Wis.) led the way for Eau Claire with 17 points. She was 6-for-13 from the floor with five of her baskets coming from beyond the arc. Christianson also came away with nine assists and four steals.

Courtney Lewis (Fr.-Prairie Du Chien, Wis.) contributed 10 points while Callie Halama (Sr.-Independence, Wis.) led the game with 11 rebounds.

The Blugolds will get back to conference play Wednesday when they host UW-Stout in a doubleheader with the men. Action is set to it off at 6 p.m. The Blugold men's game against Stout will follow.
