THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - A 21-point lead and some clutch final minute free throw shooting staved off a comeback attempt as Cal Lutheran held on for a 65-56 home victory over Puget Sound on Monday.

Box Score: CLU 65, UPS 56 - F

Cal Lutheran grabbed its largest lead following two of Jazmyne Porter's game-high 17 points with 8:33 left in regulation. However it was an uncomfortable finish from then on as the Regals were held without a field goal the rest of the way.

Cal Lutheran committed 15 personal fouls and nine turnovers in the second half with both playing major roles in the Loggers scoring 18 unanswered points. UPS pulled to within 59-56 with 1:24 to go and had a chance to tie with possession trailing by three.

UPS leading scorer Kelsey McKinnis missed her game-tying three-point attempt and Porter grabbed the rebound on a follow-up miss by the Loggers. Porter ended the CLU scoring drought going 6-for-6 at the free throw line in the final minute of regulation. During that stretch she forced a Puget Sound turnover to take away any chance of the Loggers completing their comeback effort.

The Regals defense was up to the challenge of facing a Logger offense that averaged over 72 points through nine games this season. Cal Lutheran earned a 22-15 advantage on the boards and held Puget Sound to just 8-of-31 shooting from the floor in the first half.

Cameron Jones led a group of eight Regals scoring 11 first half points. Her shot clock beating three-pointer late in the period pushed the CLU lead back to 10 points and was part of an 8-0 scoring run.

McKinnis led the Loggers with 13 points including a perfect 6-for-6 day at the foul line. Lindsay Layland finished with 11 points and a team-high three steals in the loss.

Cal Lutheran earned victories over Northwest Conference (NWC) foes on back-to-back days following a 62-46 victory over Willamette on Sunday, Dec. 18. The Regals went 3-1 against NWC opponents this season earning a win over Whitworth (Nov. 26) and suffering its lone loss to then No. 3 ranked George Fox (Nov. 27).

Cal Lutheran (4-4) will host the two-day Posada Royale Holiday Classic starting on Friday, Dec. 30.
