Belton, TX— The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team never recovered from Louisiana College's fast start and hot three-point shooting as the Cru fell to the Wildcats 106-73 Saturday afternoon in Belton. The loss drops the UMHB women to 1-8 overall and 0-6 in American Southwest Conference play on the year. LC improves to 8-1 overall and 6-0 in the ASC on the season.
UMHB was within 12-9 five minutes into the first half before Louisiana College started to pull away. The Wildcats used a 15-0 run to take control of the game and took its biggest lead of the half at 54-31 at halftime. LC pushed the lead to 30 points early in the second half and UMHB could not get closer than 25 points the rest of the way.
Lauren Reece and Brittany Zamora led the Cru with 13 points apiece and Samara Williams added 10 more. Thirteen different players scored for UMHB and Zamora also had five rebounds and five assists.
Danisha Allison topped the Wildcats with 16 points and Shasidy Ludgood added 15, all of them in the first half. Kala Chenier and Skylar Chenevert chipped in 11 points each as 15 players scored for LC. Roslyn Wilmer pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.
UMHB shot 46 percent from the field, but LC went 17-50 from three-point range. The Wildcats also out rebounded the Cru 51-38 and forced 37 UMHB turnovers in the victory.
The Cru will now have two weeks off before returning to action. The UMHB women will travel to San Antonio to face Trinity University in the final non-conference game of the season at 2:00 PM on December 31st.
