BELTON, TX - The Mississippi College women's basketball team held the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor to just 29% shooting from the floor in a 58-44 win on Thursday night in the Mayborn Campus Center.
After a slow start, MC picked up the pace to take a 33-23 lead into halftime, aided by shooting 64% (14-22) from the floor in the first half.
After the break, a couple of free throws by junior Valeri Stewart gave MC their biggest advantage at 53-33. The Lady Cru knocked down three outside shots, but the Lady Choctaws held on for the 14-point win.
Juniors Caitlin Brown and Ebony Williams paced MC with 12 points apiece, while junior Kristin Newsome chipped in nine. Sophomore Sarah Workman tallied a career-high with six assists in the victory.
The MC defense was stifling against UMHB, not letting a single player scored in double-figures. Ashlee Adams pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds, while Samara Williams scored a team-high nine points.
The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Austin, TX to face Concordia Texas at 1:00 p.m.
