Thunder Fall After Strong Second Half by Britons

More news about: Trine

ALBION, Mich. - It was another tough defensive battle for the Trine University women's basketball team as they fell to MIAA opponent Albion College 57-44. The Thunder drop their second straight game to move to 6-2 overall on the season and 2-2 in the conference.

The first half wasn't the kind of play the Thunder were looking for as their goal was to shut down the Britons First Team All-MIAA player Patty Rewa and spread out the Albion offense. Trine was able to hold Rewa, the second leading scorer in the conference, to just two points in the opening half. The Albion offense however, was able to turn nine Trine fouls into 7-of-8 shooting from the charity stripe giving them a 21-18 lead at halftime. Trine out-shot the Britons in the first half firing 33.3% from the floor on 7-of-21 shooting compared to just 6-of-28 shooting for 21.4% for Albion.

The Thunder quickly tied the game to open the second half on the first collegiate three-pointer by freshman Sicily Boyce (Ashley, Ind./Prairie Heights) knotting the game at 23 all. Senior Danielle Senf (Blanchardville, Wis./Pecatonica) went to the bench early in the second half as she picked up her fourth foul as the Thunder had to work without their veteran point guard. Junior Megan Loveberry (Quincy, Mich./Quincy) gave the Thunder a one point lead on a three, but the Britons answered right back with a three of their own to re-take the lead for good. The Britons would score 11 unanswered points to push their lead to 44-34. The Britons continued their push offensively as they lead by as much as 54-39 as the Thunder offense was unable to mount a comeback.

Despite being on the bench for over 10 minutes in the second half in foul trouble, Senf led the Thunder in every category with 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. Junior Sydney Spragg (Reading, Mich./Reading) added in 10 points while Boyce contributed with nine points.

Albion dominated the Thunder on the boards as the Britons held a 47-to-24 advantage including 20-to-8 on the offensive end alone. The Thunder defense was unable to contain Rewa in the second half as she finished with a game-high 20 points, 10 of which came from the free throw line. Trine shot a season-low 28.9% from the floor on 13-of-45 shooting.

Trine will take the week off before returning to action when they travel to #19 Franklin College on December 17 for a 2:00 p.m. game.
