ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. As a freshman, Taylor Kreider totaled seven double-doubles. Last winter the Solanco product wasn't playing in royal and white, however. Saturday afternoon at Thompson Gymnasium Kreider scored 13 points and owned the glass with 14 rebounds, lifting the Blue Jays to a 68-57 victory against Wilkes in the R1 Sports Blue Jay Classic. The double-double was her first in an E-town uniform and gave Yvonne Kauffman, coaching her 1,000th game, win number 678.

Wilkes (4-5) put up a fight in the first half and used its four-guard offense to dart around the Elizabethtown defense. The Lady Colonels went to the locker room tied at 35 after receiving nine points each from Allison Walsh and Elena Stambone. The Blue Jays (5-3) seized control early in the second half when Kendra Beittel nailed a 3-pointer to break a 37-37 deadlock 2:14 into the period.

E-town used the 3-pointer as a springboard to a 27-7 run that put them ahead 64-44 with 5:30 to play. Cheyenne Stonerook scored five straight points early in the run, while Kreider and Stephanie Ellwood each had four. Beittel would drain another shot from outside as well.

Surprisingly, Wilkes held a 52-51 rebounding advantage at game's end. The duo of Kreider and Stonerook were credited with over half (26) of E-town's rebounds. Both players set new season-highs with 14 and 12, respectively.

Walsh, selected to the All-Classic team, tested the Jays interior for the duration of the game. The only forward in Wilkes' lineup, she scored 11 points and matched Kreider for the game-high in rebounds with 14. Walsh made her living at the foul line going 7-of-9 there.

Kreider was the story of the afternoon on the court for E-town though. In addition to strong scoring and rebounding, she also brought a third element to her game: passing. Kreider and Nadine Yunginger both collected five helpers. Eight of the 10 combined assists from Kreider and Yunginger came in the first half.

Senior Jayci Scannapieco gave E-town 21 solid minutes Saturday with nine points and five boards. Marissa Ferris went into double figures for the second time in the last three games with 11 points on 2-of-8 shooting from 3-point range. Stonerook finished with seven points.

Kauffman, who announced earlier in the week that she will retire at season's end, picked up her 678th win in her 1,000th career game. The 42nd-year head coach has a 678-322 record and is the second winningest active coach in Division III.

Elizabethtown wraps up the Blue Jay Classic tomorrow afternoon against PSU Harrisburg at 2 p.m. The Jays will then travel to San Juan, P.R. for games on Dec. 18 and 20.
