Ravens Drop Home Opener to Immaculata

More news about: Rosemont

ROSEMONT, Pa. - The Rosemont College women's basketball team hung tough with the visiting Mighty Macs of Immaculata University for the first 27 minutes of tonight's game, but from that point the Mighty Macs outscored Rosemont by a 25-12 margin over a span of 7:27 in the second half to salt the game away.

The first half of the game featured four early lead changes and four tie scores, but a layup by Immaculata's Leah Kuczynski put the Ravens behind 13-11 with 11:40 left in the first, and the Ravens would never sniff the lead for the remainder of the contest.

Trailing 36-29 at the half the Ravens moved to within four points at 36-32 on a layup by first year Liz Coyne (West Chester, Pa.). But from that point the Mighty Macs would build on that lead to ultimately win the game easily down the stretch.

Two Ravens accounted for close to 70% of Rosemont's points in this contest. Coyne shot 7-14 from the field and 11-15 at the charity stripe to notch 25 points. Junior Ashley Montecchio (Aston, Pa.) scored 15. Coyne held on to 12 caroms while Montecchio grabbed 11. For Montecchio, it's her third consecutive double-double. It was Coyne's first for her young career.

Immaculata placed five players in double-figures: Chrissy Esbensen (19), Bridget Welz (14), Leah Kuczynski (11), Katie Durkin (10), Sara Smith (10). Kuczynski grabbed eight boards to lead the visitors. Welz also had seven steals while Smith had four.

Turnovers again helped to do in the Ravens. Rosemont committed 14 more turnovers than did Immaculata (31-17).

With the loss the Ravens drop to an overall record of 2-3 (0-2 CSAC). Immaculata now sits at 4-2 (2-0 CSAC). The Ravens stay at home against the Baptist Bible Defenders on Saturday, December 3. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00pm.
