LEXINGTON, Ky.- Transy used a complete team effort to earn a 73-59 win over Earlham on Wednesday night at the Beck Center.

Five Pioneers scored in double-figures, led by Alex McKenzie and Terra Lucas, who had 16 and 13 points, respectively. They were joined in double-figures by Jariana Gillespie, who pitched in ten points for Transy (2-4, 1-1 HCAC).

Kennae Demus added eight points for the Pioneers, who welcomed ten different players into the scoring column.

"We came out ready to play and were very focused tonight," said head coach Greg Todd, who earned his 98th career victory at Transylvania. "We played well in many aspects and took great care of the basketball."

The story of the game, however, was a swarming Pioneer defense that forced 21 Earlham turnovers.

"Defense is our trademark," Todd said. "If you're a good defensive player, you can bring that part of your game to the gym every night."

The Pioneers, who came into the game ranked in the top-3 in the HCAC in blocks and steals per game, blocked five shots and earned six steals on Wednesday.

Transy also had nine players log double-figure minutes, helping stretch a 32-30 halftime lead to as much as 17 in the second half.

"It's always been a philosophy of mine as a coach to play as many players as we can," added Todd. "And right now, we plan to take advantage of our tremendous depth."

The win over Earlham was Transy's third in a row. Last year, the Pioneers knocked off the Quakers 86-69 and 81-56.

Next up for TU is a trip to Manchester on Saturday for a 1 p.m. tip-off.
