NEW YORK, NY - Despite a dramatic second half comeback, the Hunter College women's basketball team was defeated by Weslyan University, 64-51 at the Hunter Sportsplex.

After managing just ten first half points, the Hawks outscored the Cardinals 41-31 in the second half, shooting 48 percent from the floor (15-for-31). Megan McKenna lead the Hawks with 17 points and six second-half steals, while Nicole Lenard and Kristen Markoe added 14 and 10 points respectively.

Wesleyan led from the opening tip, scoring 17 of the first 19 points of the game. Hunter went into the locker room at halftime down 23 points as the Cardinals shot 50 percent from the floor (14-for-28). The Hawks managed just 20 percent (5-for-24) shooting in the first half, turning the ball over 21 times.

The second half was not the same as the first however. McKenna drilled a 3-pointer just 13 seconds in to cut the deficit to 20. Hunter then went on a 9-1 run for the next five minutes to slowly chip away at what had looked like an insurmountable Wesleyan lead.

The Cardinals managed to inch the lead back up to 21 with just over six minutes left. McKenna then ran the lane for a layup the begin a 14-2 Hawks' run over the next four minutes to cut the lead to nine. But the Cardinals took advantage of their trips to the foul line shooting 9-for-12 from the stripe down the stretch to keep the lead out of the Hawks reach.

Hunter (1-3) opens CUNY Athletic Conference play next Tuesday with a trip to John Jay College.
