NEW YORK, NY – The Hunter College women's basketball team earned its first win in CUNY Athletic Conference action this season, defeating John Jay College, 79-62.

Hunter (2-3, 1-0 CUNYAC) spoiled homecoming for John Jay (1-3, 0-1 CUNYAC) at the Doghouse.

Led by a pair of sophomores, Kristen Markoe finished the night with 23 points and eight rebounds while Nicole Lenard finish in double-digits as the sophomore put up 22 points and finished a rebound shy of a double-double (nine) en route to giving the Hawks the victory. Alease Vaughan ended the night with nine points and grabbed eight boards to aid the Hawks' efforts tonight.

Hunter took a comfortable 23-point lead into the half after capitalizing on 13 Bloodhound turnovers on 56.3% shooting from the field and an impressive 66.7% from behind the arc but the Bloodhounds wouldn't go down without a fight. The home team came out of the break ready to play and cut Hunter's lead down to just seven points with 7:38 left to play but the Hawks wouldn't waste time responding. Despite being outshot by John Jay 52.9%-32.4% in the second half, the Hawks would spark a 10-2 run across the next two and a half minutes to build a 15-point lead and distance the Bloodhounds with 5:13 left to play.

The Hawks return to action this December 2nd at 5:30 pm when they welcome Lehman College to the Hunter Sportsplex as part of the 2011 Hunter Homecoming.
