UW-Platteville Loses WIAC Opener to UW-River Falls, 67-46

University of Wisconsin-River Falls built an early 17-point lead on host University of Wisconsin-Platteville en route to a 67-46 win in the WIAC opener for both teams in Platteville, Wisconsin.

UW-Platteville (3-5, 0-1 WIAC) was led by sophomore Danielle Hopkins, who scored 10 points in the loss. The Pioneers were held to 27.7% shooting from the field and forced 22 Falcons turnovers.

UW-River Falls (6-0, 1-0 WIAC), who is ranked No. 21 in the latest D3hoops.com poll, was led by Nikki Guhr, who scored 10 of her 16 points in the first 20 minutes to lead the Falcons. Guhr was joined in double figures by Tiffany Gregorich, who added 10 and Maranda Dohrn led the Falcons with 17 rebounds to lead UWRF to a 47-26 advantage on the boards.

Facing a 34-17 halftime deficit, the Pioneers scored the first 12 points of the second half to cut the deficit to 34-29 with 16:55 to play. In the spurt, Hopkins hit a pair of 3 pointers to lead UW-Platteville.

After a UW-River Falls timeout, the Falcons scored the next 10 points to stretch the lead to double digits for the rest of the contest. The Pioneers would cut the deficit to as little as 12, 49-37, with 6:27 left in the game.

The Pioneers will remain home for its next game when they host UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday, Dec. 7 on Bo Ryan Court at 7 p.m.
