CHICAGO -- Bryanne Halfhill tied a school record with six 3-point field goals as the second-ranked University of Chicago women's basketball team defeated Illinois Wesleyan University 80-77 in non-conference play Saturday at the Ratner Athletics Center.

Game Summary

  • Halfhill buried all six of her treys in the first half to help give the Maroons (6-0) a 40-34 lead at the break.

  • Chicago maintained the advantage until Illinois Wesleyan (3-3) tied the game at 56-56 with 9:50 to play.

  • Chicago built a 10-point lead (75-65) at the 3:14 mark, but the Titans closed to within two points twice in the game's final minute. 

  • Illinois Wesleyan had a chance to tie the game, but missed a long 3-point attempt as time expired.

Statistical Highlights

  • With her six 3-point baskets, Halfhill tied the Chicago single game record she holds along with four other players.

  • Halfhill led four Maroons in double digits with 20 points. Meghan Herrick finished with 14 points, while Morgan Herrick and Taylor Simpson added 13 and 10 points, respectively.

  • Illinois Wesleyan's Olivia Lett led all scorers with 30 points. She also grabbed 10 rebounds. 

  • Melissa Gardner (16) and Colleen McMahon (13) also tallied double figures for the Titans.

  • Simpson also collected 11 rebounds to record her first double-double of the year and 16th of her career.

Notes

  • Chicago defeated Illinois Wesleyan for the first time in four tries during Head Coach Aaron Roussell's eight-year tenure. The Titans had been the only team Roussell had faced more than once without recording a victory.

  • Chicago extended its regular season winning streak to 24 games and their Ratner Center winning streak to 16 games.

  • The Maroons won for the 38th consecutive time when they led at halftime.

  • Chicago's 6-0 start to the season is its best since 2006-07 when it won its first 16 contests.

  • Halfhill scored 20 points for the eighth time in her career. She increased her career points total to 909.

  • Illinois Wesleyan became the first team this season to shoot better than 40% from the field against the Maroons (46.6%).
