Four players scored in double figures for the Washington University in St. Louis women's basketball team as the Bears defeated Wisconsin Lutheran College, 70-58, on Saturday evening at the WU Field House to win the 11th Annual McWilliams Classic championship for the fifth-straight year.

Senior Dani Hoover and junior Kristin Anda each scored 17 points to lead Washington U. (6-1). Hoover finished 4-of-4 in the game from three-point range to tie the tournament record with eight three-pointers on the weekend. Hoover received the Jacqueline Bickel Schaap MVP Award following her 24-point effort in the Bears' win on Friday. Anda recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds against Wisconsin Lutheran to also receive all-tournament honors.

Joining Hoover and Anda on the all-tournament team were senior Bethany Morrison and Wisconsin Lutheran's (4-2) Shavon Dillon and Rachel Johnson. Amy Hicks of Augustana College and Genefine Sapateh of Agnes Scott College were also selected to the all-tournament team. Augustana (5-2) defeated Agnes Scott (2-5), 61-46, in the McWilliams Classic consolation game.

The teams played back-and-forth throughout the first half, with Washington U. taking its largest lead of the half after a basket by freshman Melissa Gilkey made it 14-11 in favor of the Bears. Wisconsin Lutheran regained the lead at 19-16, and extended it to as many as five points later in the half. The Warriors took a 28-23 with 3:40 remaining in the half, but the Bears closed the deficit to 28-30 after a coast-to-coast layup by freshman Maddy Scheppers. Scheppers then sank a three-pointer with 39 seconds left to give the Bears a 31-30 lead at halftime.

Washington U. opened the second half with six-straight points, including four by Hoover to open up a 37-30 lead. Wisconsin Lutheran rallied to take a 40-39 lead, but five points by Anda and another three-pointer by Scheppers gave the Bears a 47-40 lead with 13:42 left in the game. The Warriors cut the lead to five, but a 10-2 run by Washington U., including a pair of three-pointers by Hoover, made it 59-46 with 8:49 remaining. Wisconsin Lutheran cut the lead to single digits at 61-54. The Bears regained a double-digit lead when Hoover converted a four-point play with 3:26 remaining to make it 65-54, before earning the 70-48 win.

The Bears shot 43.9 percent from the field in the game, including 53.8 percent in the second half. Wisconsin Lutheran finished with 38.1 percent shooting from the field in the game. Washington U. out-rebounded the Warriors 45-35, and outscored them 21-12 on second-chance points.

In addition to Hoover and Anda scoring 17 points each, Gilkey finished with 14 points and eight rebounds. Scheppers added career-highs of 11 points and eight rebounds for the Bears. Morrison had six assists for Washington U. for the second-straight game.

Washington U. will travel to Dubuque, Iowa, to take on Loras College at 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 9.

BEAR NOTEBOOK: Washington U. improved to 20-2 all-time in the McWilliams Classic ... the double-double by Anda was the first of the season for any of the Bears ... Hoover finished 8-of-9 from three-point range in the McWilliams Classic, and improved to 53.8 percent from beyond the arc this season.
